Summary of Goals and Objectives	My goal is to be an independently-funded physician-scientist, leading my own research group in patient-oriented research that focuses on transforming our understanding and approach to skin cancer and decreasing the burden of disease for skin cancer in the United States. Read More My goal is to be an independently-funded physician-scientist, leading my own research group in patient-oriented research that focuses on transforming our understanding and approach to skin cancer and decreasing the burden of disease for skin cancer in the United States. In pursuit of this goal, I am seeking a tenure-track physician-scientist faculty position at an institution that provides me outstanding opportunities for success in my academic research career. My overarching research goals are focused on early detection and prevention of skin cancers: I aim to understand the relationship between actinic keratoses and skin cancers, identify early prognostic markers for patients at high risk of skin cancer, and develop optimal skin cancer prevention paradigms. Within the first five years of becoming a principal investigator, my goals are to: 1) establish a productive, supportive, and collaborative dry-bench laboratory in patient-oriented skin cancer research that includes post-doctoral and doctoral student trainees as well as research staff, 2) develop an observational and interventional skin cancer research program that improves our understanding of risk factors and prognostic markers, as well as develops and tests early detection and prevention interventions that directly impact patients, 3) be an excellent mentor to trainees and collaborator to peers, 4) publish high impact papers, and 5) obtain extramural NIH funding at the R01 level.
