| Lay Summary |
Accurate margin assessment during cancer surgery is critical to fully removing tumors and reducing the risk of recurrence. The current standard—frozen section analysis—can take up to 30 minutes, requires a pathologist, prolongs surgery, and may damage tissue needed for further testing. NovaScan developed MarginScan, a compact, AI-enhanced device that uses bioelectrical impedance spectroscopy (BIS) to rapidly detect cancer at the surgical margin—without freezing or destroying tissue. MarginScan delivers results in under 4 minutes and can be used directly in the operating room. The device’s lead indication is non-melanoma skin cancer (NMSC), with clinical studies showing 91% sensitivity and 96... |
