| Lay Summary |
OncoMAGNETx (OMTx), a Houston-based company, is developing a wearable non-invasive medical device to treat glioblastoma (GBM), the most aggressive and deadly brain cancer. With a poor median survival of 12–18 months, GBM is a huge unmet need known for lack of viable treatments, despite much effort. Most therapies fail as they are invasive and/or localized, and cannot address the manner by which GBM aggressively spreads. Our device was invented at Houston Methodist, has no harmful side effects, and is worn for 4–6 hrs/day at home. Low-intensity rotating magnetic fields target cancer cells by disrupting metabolism and causing GBM tumor cell death, all while sparing healthy and surrounding tiss... |
